Some of your tasks as a leader.

Invest in your people.

Train and develop your people.

Help them understand where you are headed – the mission, the vision.

Continue to train and develop your people.

Provide guidelines and guardrails for them.

Continue to train and develop your people.

Give them the authority and autonomy to solve problems within the guidelines and guardrails.

Ask them, “What do you need from me?”

Continue to train and develop your people.

Help them understand how their efforts are connected to the greater purpose.

Continue to train and develop your people.

Trust them to do their jobs and to use their best judgement.

If something goes wrong then conduct a Blameless Post-mortem to determine what happened, why it happened, what they (and you) learned from the experience, what you are doing to share the learning and what you are doing to prevent the same error / mistake / failure in the future.

Continue to train and develop your people.

When things go right be sure to learn from those experiences as well.

Continue to train and develop your people.

Think long game. Think Infinite Game.

Invest in your people, believe in your people, training your people, trust your people.

Remember that leadership is a choice and a journey and it starts with you. Choose well, keep learning and enjoy the journey.
